I know, I know, it's been forever since we actually posted anything but at this point I'm only going to be blogging my favorite new tracks b/c there's simply no reason to re-post everything that's already being covered by the heavy hitters. Speaking of which, I saw the new Chiddy Bang track over at one of my favorite blogs, Dirty Mexican Lemonade, and I was just blown away. Granted, the Philly hip hop duo are by no means the first to sample soul heavy hitters like Ray Charles or Otis Redding (cough cough...huge thanks to Jay-Z and Kanye for ruining one of my favorite songs!), but this song has got some serious bounce. Instead of letting the Ray Charles sample speak for itself, Xaphoon and Chiddy craftily build magical hooks and verses that manage to keep the focal point on them, a must in any hip hop sampling. Word on the street is that 'Ray Charles' will be featured on the much anticipated freshman Chiddy Bang album, so stay tuned for more leaks!
