Beautician Gets A Moombah-Makeover

DJ Basscamp here. I've joined up with Audionugs to bring you some periodic pulsing pleasure from the bowels of the electro world. I've been keeping a blog myself over at djbasscamp.com and every Monday I like to post a feature on Moombahton. My reasoning is two-fold:

First, as a DC resident, I want to do everything in my power to promote this "local" genre, which has made a meteoric rise in the past six months thanks to the likes of Dave Nada, Dillon Francis, Munchi, Heartbreak and more. Second, everyone and their mother seems to have caught the "Moombah-fever" and thinks that pumping out a random track or remix at 108 bpm will make them the next big thing (I may be partially guilty of this myself). Thing is, Moombahton is made of more than just reggaeton beat and dirty dutch hook. The tracks that stand out to me in this genre have enormous depth and creativity involved. So I've made it my mission to spread the good word about those Moombahton tracks that really make the genre what it is.

Today's track is off the new Mad Decent Vol. 1 compilation, released last Friday on Beatport. Dillon Francis decided to give his massive tune Beautician a Moombah-makeover, resulting in Beautician 2.0. In my opinion, this one tows the line beautifully between Moombahton and moombahsoul, delivering on the manic builds and dirty dutch power synth, but also finding the chilled out sweet spot during the breakdown. A great one for your burgeoning Moombahton library and another testament to Dillon Francis' artistic ability. Being able to remix one of your own songs into something so unique from the original is a fantastic accomplishment. Hope you enjoy.

Rave is king.
