Meet Uber-Hipsters Das Racist
When it comes to Das Racist, I really have no clue where to start. The Brooklyn-based rap crew comprised of Himanshu Suri, Victor Vasquez & hype man Dap formed at Wesleyan College a few years back, and made their entry onto the hip-hop scene in 2008 with their song "Combination Pizza Hut & Taco Bell", a stoner anthem odder than anything that Kid Cudi could produce. With so many music critics talking about the death of hip-hop, Das Racist represents this unique post-modern orgy of new skool rhymes, dubstep, classic rock and electro pop, creating songs like nothing you've ever heard. 2010 was a huge year for the crew, who managed to release to critically-acclaimed mixtapes, Shut Up Dude & Sit Down Man, both of which are available for free download from their site. My favorite tracks so far have to be "You Oughta Know", which is NOT to be confused with the Alanis Morrisette track of the same name, uses an awesome Billy Joel sample, while "Who's That? Brown!" has a killer dubstep beat heavy enough to blow out those cheap Apple headphones of yours.
